It’s a little embarrassing, but as a junior in high school, this is what I knew about Columbine:

1. It was a school where a really bad shooting had taken place.

2. It was why many schools didn’t allow backpacks in class or trench coats.

Here’s what I didn’t know:

1. How many shooters there were

2. How many people died

3. Why it happened

4. Much of anything, really

It’s crazy, but a lot of people don’t really know what happened at Columbine High School that awful day. This book peels away the myths, rumours, and outright lies that have been spread about the tragedy, and tells the true stories of the town, the killers, and the victims. It’s fascinating not only as a book about a single event, but a book about human nature and its capacity for both destruction and recovery.
